“Today is the day that the Lord has made, and I will rejoice in it.”These words are spoken by David and they were said in defiance to the way his heart actually was feeling.
You would I like David mystify our emotions and declare the word of the Lord. Our emotions make great slaves, but terrible masters. Your emotions are here to inform, but not to control.
Just before David says this: “The stone which the builders rejected, Has become the chief cornerstone.” It suggests, that rejection, the deepest of rejections must proceed, the of gratitude.
Rejection and gratitude are connected, the taste of sweet has a different resonance, once the taste of sour has been experienced. The LORD sends both the sour and the sweet, the sour things make way for the sweet.
Psalms 118:22-24
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
