No matter the depth and breath of your sin. No matter the manner or magnitude of your depravity. The gospel is for you. Grace has covered you. This is not a license to sin, but a license to live free of shame and guilt.
There is a difference between being guilty and the shame of guilt. The shame is constant and designed to convict a soul. The stench of guilt is remedied by right behaviors. Guilt leads to repentance, but shame leads to inadequacy.
Improve your character, so that your words have power. So that your reputation reflects a royal priesthood. So that men can hear you and are moved to act. So that I can present your life to the host of Heaven and to the gates of Hell, as Holy.
I have forgotten your sins, but you are returning to the past, as a dog returns to vomit. This is a harsh word, designed not to hurt your heart, but to provoke it. You are more. You are chosen. You are called. You are eternally MINE.
2 Peter 2:20-22
When people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”
