#282 – Being Offended

In a dream, I was slowly driving in a downtown area with various intersecting streets. It was during what seemed to be rush hour. Some of the streets were one-way and others were two-way.

One could easily get confused, especially if you were not familiar with the area. As I was making a right turn, from a one-way street onto a two-way street. A car leaving a parking lot, began heading in the wrong direction and toward me.

Once the driver realized he was heading in the wrong direction, he made the adjustment by making a U-Turn, in my lane. This was not the considerate or safe thing to do, he could have reversed back into the parking lot.

I was annoyed by this and fixated my attitude and attention on the illicit driver. My obsession on the driver and not on driving, led to an accident, me hitting another car.

I was so worried about my offender, that I let it distract me. My need to be right and express displeasure with Mr. U-turn, led to embarrassment, further frustration and an unnecessary expense. A temporary inconvenience, became a substantial inconvenience, because I refused to let an offense go.

I learned that being offended or allowing myself to become offended is a distraction, that takes my focus off what matters. When you have an assignment, distractions will come and we must release the right to be offended for the sake of righteousness.

Proverbs 19:11
Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
