Have a short memory and take the emotions out of your decisions. Offense will always be present and the enemy uses it to steal your joy. An offended you is not a Holy you. Consider this, the mounting attempts to offend you are the evidence, that you are close to a breakthrough.
David was offended and thought to kill Nabal because of his disrespect and disregard. David was about to make a decision that would change the trajectory of his life. He was exiled, hungry, thirsty and exhausted. This one decision would undermined his calling.
David embraced the spirit, good sense and kindness of Abigail. In your moments of intense frustration and anger, find Abigail before finding your sword. Refuse to let the actions of a Nabal, a foolish person influence your behaviors.
David said, ‘You have kept me from using my own hands to get even.’ This too is your mandate, allow God the room to rectify and restore. Vengeance is for the Lord. Focus on the wisdom of the Abigails and ignore the foolishness of the Nabals.
1 Samuel 25 (Excerpt 25-31)
The Lord your God will certainly give you and your family line a kingdom that will last. That’s because you fight the Lord’s battles. You won’t do anything wrong as long as you live. Someone may chase you and try to kill you. But the Lord your God will keep your life safe like a treasure hidden in a bag. And he’ll destroy your enemies. Their lives will be thrown away, just as a stone is thrown from a sling. The Lord will do for you every good thing he promised to do. He’ll appoint you ruler over Israel. When that happens, you won’t have this heavy load on your mind. You won’t have to worry about how you killed people without any reason. You won’t have to worry about how you got even.
