Forgiveness in a fallen world is a potent weapon. It is more than a shield for defense, it is an offensive tool of attack. Forgiveness is a double edged sword, debilitating on the thrust and more fatal, for transgressions, as it is removed.
There is a seed in each moment of forgiveness you bestow, that becomes a future and a necessary harvest. The restoration you are seeking is tied directly to the restoration you liberally give to others.
The natural thing, the selfish thing and the easy thing to do is in demanding full payment for your debtors and expecting to pay, those who you are indebted to, with a discount. This is the personification of egotism.
The ego and forgiveness are arch enemies, they are on two separate ends of the same spectrum. One stems from Love and the other fear. One is a carnal reaction and the other a divine choice. When the trespasses engulf, self preservation ensues unless forgiveness is made a priority.
Matthew 6:11:15
Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
