In the beginning man had dominion and after sin he had shame. His decision to choose his own desires over God’s commands, led to him to losing three key things: access to God, His governing power and his place in the garden.
Man had a direct relationship with God, that was lost. Man walked with God in the cool of the day, being renewed daily and had a direct unparalleled intimacy. The cost of sin was closeness and an uninterrupted route to God’s heart.
Man’s role was to Govern all that God had created. He was given authority over every living thing, within this control were the components of Man’s identity: his power, his authority and his role. The cost of sin was man losing his identity.
Man had the Garden of Eden an environment made especially for him to cultivate. Man had dominion over the entire earth, but had a specific domain for refreshing and reflection, that was Eden. The cost of sin was man losing his divine environment.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
