I heard a story the other day. A grandson was rummaging through his grandfather’s things and he came across a vintage watch. The grandson asked, what do you think this watch is worth, grandpa?
Well, he said, I don’t know grandson. Take it to the watchmaker and get yourself a price. Once you have a price, bring the price back to me. When the Grandson returned, he explained, the watchmaker said $5. The grandson was happy.
Then the Grandfather said. Now, Take it to the jeweler and get yourself a price. Once you have a price, bring the price back to me. When the grandson returned, he explained, the jeweler said $500. The grandson was excited.
Then the Grandfather said, a third time. Now, take it to the antique collector and get yourself a price. Once you have a price, bring the price back to me. When the grandson returned, he explained, the collector said $500,000. The grandson was overwhelmed.
To the watchmaker it was a timepiece, to the jeweler it was a signature piece, but to the collector it was a masterpiece. It is 100% in your control, whether you are going to be someone’s timepiece, someone’s signature piece or someone’s masterpiece.
